In 1960 production was 135000 Yamaha bikes a year. 1965 saw the advancement of no longer having to mix oil with gas due to the automatic oil. In 1973 Yamaha was selling more than 1 million motorcycles a year worldwide.

During the 1970’s began work on developing four-stroke models to compete with other manufacturers. The results were faster than motorcycles met emissions regulations and were even cheaper than the standard two-stroke.
